Kakayo was founded on February 12, 2006 as catering business and has since evolved into a retail location. Kakayo is the full-time passion of owner and founder Colleen Wong-Sala. Using all fair trade and certified organic products, Kakayo fills a niche for Toronto’s most discerning chocolate lovers.
Looking to bridge the gap between Toronto’s boutique shops with overly-sweet treats and tree-hugging products found at health food shops, Colleen saw an opportunity and jumped on it – bringing the best of two worlds together in a fresh modern concept. Her new storefront is located at 1584 Queen Street East – part Leslieville, part Beach.
Mouth-watering truffles are made from certified organic, fair trade, premium ingredients. Ganache fillings are infused with a variety of fresh fruits, tea leaves, herbs and coffees. When you walk into Kakayo, you step right into Colleen’s kitchen. Kakayo invites customers to be part of the chocolate making experience, hand dipping each delight for all to see.
Flavours ranging from Chai Masala to Banana Split and Hot Tamale are inspired by foods that Colleen enjoys, and more importantly, inspired by customer feedback. The fun-factor is also important such as with her peanut butter-laced “Trailer Park” creation and “Raspberry Nipple” delicacy.
